MaloneBible Rebinding · Oslo
Every rebind is made by hand for one specific book, so it helps to agree on the ground rules first. By placing an order, sending us your Bible, paying a materials invoice or approving a project, you are telling us you have read these terms and accept them.
They are written to be read, not skimmed past. If anything here is unclear, ask us before you send your Bible — we would much rather answer the question first.
Last updated 7 August 2026Malone Bible Rebinding is a small family bindery based in Oslo, Norway. Every order is handled by us directly — there is no third-party workshop.
You can reach us any time at christophermalone@malonebiblerebinding.com. These terms apply to every rebind, restoration and related service we carry out.
Submitting the form on our site is a request, not a binding order. Nothing is confirmed until we have reviewed your Bible's details and replied with a written quote and shipping instructions.
The estimate shown while you fill in the form is indicative. Final pricing depends on the size and condition of your Bible, the leather chosen and any additions; we confirm the exact figure before any work begins.
Prices are quoted in Norwegian kroner (NOK). A full leather rebind starts at 2 500 kr; leather upgrades, yapp options and add-ons are priced as listed on our pricing page.
Payment is made in two parts. Once your order is confirmed we invoice the cost of materials — leather, endpapers, ribbons and any add-ons — and work begins when that invoice is paid. The remaining balance covers the labour and is invoiced when the rebind is finished and ready to ship; it falls due on receipt.
Materials are ordered and cut for your book specifically, so the materials invoice is non-refundable once the work has started.
If, once we have your Bible in hand, the work needed differs materially from what was quoted, we will contact you with a revised price before continuing. You are free to decline, and we will return the Bible unworked at cost.
You may cancel a confirmed order at no cost at any time before we begin work, and we will refund anything you have paid that we have not yet spent.
Because every rebind is made to your specification, the fourteen-day right of withdrawal under the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act does not apply once work has started (see § 22, made-to-order goods). Once materials have been ordered or cut, or work has begun, the order is non-refundable to the extent of the materials committed and the labour already done.
Finished custom and personalised work cannot be returned for a change of mind. If we decide we cannot carry out your order, we will say so, refund what you have paid apart from materials already used, and return your Bible.
You are responsible for packing your Bible securely and for the cost of sending it to us. We strongly recommend a tracked and insured service, with the value you would want covered declared to the carrier.
We are not responsible for loss or damage that occurs in transit to us. Once the parcel is in our hands, it is our responsibility until it leaves us again.
Please remove anything loose you do not want to lose — pressed flowers, photographs, letters, bookmarks. We keep and return anything we find, but we cannot be responsible for items we were not told about.
You send us a book that already has a history. Most Bibles that come to us have some combination of brittle or foxed paper, tears, weak or broken hinges, loose signatures, water staining, tape, glue or earlier repairs done by someone else. We work with all of it, carefully, and we tell you what we find.
Taking a book apart is how we learn its true condition, and that process can reveal weaknesses that were not visible from the outside. Despite every care, some deterioration can occur while a fragile book is being disbound, cleaned, repaired or rebound — pages may separate at existing weak points, old repairs may fail, and previously hidden damage may become apparent. By placing an order you accept that risk on books in this condition.
We know that many of these Bibles are sentimental, rare or simply irreplaceable, and we treat every one of them that way. But we cannot undo age, and we cannot restore a book to a state it was never in when it arrived.
We reserve the right to decline any project — before or after we have the book in hand — where we judge that the condition makes restoration unsafe, impractical or likely to do more harm than good. In that case we will explain why and return the Bible to you unworked at cost.
You choose the specification and you approve it in writing before we begin. That includes:
Please check personalised text carefully. We set it exactly as you supply it, and once it has been stamped into leather it cannot be changed or undone. Corrections after that point require new materials at your cost.
Changes requested after work has started may not be possible, and where they are, they may affect both the price and the timeline.
Leather is a natural material. Grain, texture, tone, growth marks, healed scars and small surface irregularities vary between hides and even across a single hide. These are characteristics of genuine leather, not defects, and no two rebinds are identical.
Colours on a screen are an approximation. Monitors, phone displays and photographs all shift colour, and the finished book will not match a digital preview exactly. If an exact shade matters to you, ask us before you order and we will photograph the actual hide in daylight or send a swatch.
Our aim is the best possible result for the book in front of us — not a new book. Restoration has limits, and honest craftsmanship means saying so.
Where pages are already torn, brittle or previously repaired, we will do our best but cannot guarantee an invisible result. Old stains, cockling, trimmed margins, missing pages and prior damage generally remain visible after rebinding. We will always tell you before we begin if we believe the outcome is likely to differ from what you pictured.
Our normal turnaround is four to six weeks from the day your Bible reaches us, plus return shipping.
All timings we give are honest estimates, not guaranteed completion dates. Work can take longer because of current workload, the difficulty of a particular restoration, material availability or supplier delays, illness, family emergencies, weather, carrier disruption, or other circumstances outside our control. When something slips, we tell you rather than leaving you wondering.
If your Bible is needed for a specific date, tell us before you send it and we will say plainly whether we can meet it.
Finished work is returned by a tracked service, packed to protect the binding, with insurance to the value you have declared to us. Return shipping and any customs duties or import charges outside Norway are your responsibility.
You are responsible for giving us a complete and accurate shipping address. If a parcel is returned, delayed or lost because the address was wrong or incomplete, the cost of re-shipping is yours.
Once we hand a parcel to the carrier, responsibility for it passes to that carrier. We are not liable for loss, damage or delay in transit, but we will always help you file and pursue a claim, and we keep photographs of the finished work to support it.
The balance falls due when the work is finished. Until it is paid, we store your Bible safely and at no charge.
If we cannot reach you — after at least three attempts by email and any other contact details you have given us, over a period of six months from the date we tell you the work is complete — we may treat the order as abandoned and dispose of or recover our costs from the book. We would much rather never do this. Keep your contact details current with us and it will never arise.
We stand behind our workmanship. If the binding fails through a fault in our materials or execution under normal use, bring it back to us and we will repair it free of charge. Please check your Bible on arrival and tell us within fourteen days if anything is wrong.
The guarantee does not cover:
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any single order is limited to the value of the work carried out, plus the declared value of the book where you insured it. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
We do not cover sentimental value — no sum of money would, which is why we ask you to insure irreplaceable books properly and to tell us before you send anything you could not bear to lose.
Nothing in these terms limits or removes the rights you have as a consumer under Norwegian law, and we make no claim that these terms satisfy the law of any other country.
We often photograph finished work for our portfolio, website and social media. We never show names, inscriptions, personal notes or anything identifying — and if you would rather we did not photograph your Bible at all, just say so, at any point before it ships, and we will not.
We use the details you give us only to quote, carry out and return your order. We do not sell or share them.
These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Any dispute we cannot settle between us belongs to the Norwegian courts, with Oslo as the venue. If you are ordering from outside Norway, that choice of law and venue still applies, and nothing here limits any non-waivable consumer rights you hold where you live.
We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force for your order is the one published here on the day your order is confirmed.
By submitting a Bible to us, placing an order, paying a materials invoice or approving a specification, you confirm that you have read and agreed to these Terms & Conditions — including, in particular:
If any of that sits uneasily with you, write to us first. We would rather talk it through than have you send a book you are unsure about.
